The pedestrian, a female, was standing on the corner of Bryan Ave. and Rubican, near Beckman High School, when she was struck by a sedan. According to Irvine police, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Additional details about what may have caused the accident have not been released.

A pedestrian standing at an intersection corner is vulnerable to being hit by drivers traveling through the intersection. Our firm represented a client who was standing at an intersection corner, twirling a sign. He was struck by a vehicle that went up onto the curb, hit him, and propelled him into a wall. In that case, we successfully made a claim against two drivers, even though only one of the vehicles struck our client. In that case, a truck began to turn left at the intersection, and then the truck driver aborted the turn because he saw an approaching SUV, and decided he didn't have enough time to complete his turn. The driver of the approaching SUV saw the truck beginning to turn left in front of him. The SUV driver swerved right because he thought he was going to hit the left-turning truck. The SUV went up onto the curb and struck our client.

Even though only one vehicle struck our client, and there was no contact between the SUV and the truck, we were successful in obtaining a significant settlement from both insurance companies.
