Boy Killed Crossing Pasadena Street

|

A boy was struck by a pickup truck and killed Saturday evening at a busy Pasadena intersection.

The accident happened about 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hill Ave. and Colorado Blvd. The boy, a 7-year-old Rowland Heights resident, was crossing Hill Ave. in a marked crosswalk. He was walking with his parents. The driver of the pickup truck was traveling westbound on Colorado Blvd., turning right onto Hill. The pickup truck driver struck the boy. The boy's parents, who were behind their son, were not hit.

The boy and the truck had a green light. According to Lt. Tracy Ibarra of the Pasadena Police Department, it appears that the truck driver just did not see the boy. The truck driver was cooperative and remained at the scene after the accident. He offered to provide blood and urine samples to rule out driving under the influence.

Police are attempting to retrieve security surveillance tape from neighboring businesses.

In this case, based on the information available, it appears that the truck driver was 100% responsible for the accident. The truck driver violated Vehicle Code Section 21950(a), which states:

"The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway

within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection…"
