Street Racing Accident in Wilmington Leaves 2 Teenagers Dead

|

Two vehicles collided during a street race in Wilmington Thursday, leaving two teenagers dead.

The accident happened about 3:15 p.m. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, two vehicles were racing westbound on Pacific Coast Highway, near Island Ave. One of the cars, a Honda Civic, carried four Banning High School students: driver 18-year-old Elexis Garcia, her 17-year-old brother Eli Garcia, and two females in the back seat. Lexi Garcia was reportedly driving her boyfriend's car. She lost control of the vehicle and slammed into oncoming traffic, where it hit a white ride-share van, driven by a female. The other vehicle involved in the street race, a dark-colored pickup truck, took off.

Lexi Garcia and Eli Garcia were pronounced dead at the scene. One of the car's passengers underwent surgery at a local hospital. The other Honda Civic passenger was treated and released. The dirver of the van was hospitalized for her injuries.

The location of the crash was about three blocks from Banning High School, which gets out at 3 p.m.
