Big Rig - Train Crash in City of Industry Injures 3

|

Three people suffered injuries Tuesday when a big rig crashed into a moving train.

The accident happened at just before 3:20 p.m. A semi-truck owned by Con-Way Freight crashed into a Union Pacific intermodal freight train. The train was travelling eastbound from the Port of Long Beach, headed to Illinois. According to a Union Pacific spokesperson, the train was hauling consumer goods.

Union Pacific police are reporting that the big rig driver failed to clear the train tracks at Fairway Dr. and Walnut Dr. as he was waiting in gridlocked traffic to get on the freeway. The approaching train slammed into the end of the tractor-trailer. The trailer swung around and struck approximately six vehicles.

The big rig driver is apparently claiming someone tried to cut him off.

According to police, three people were transported to a local hospital.

Con-Way Freight is a $5.8 billion freight transportation and supply chain management company.
