Motorcyclist Killed near Long Beach Traffic Circle

A motorcyclist was killed near the Long Beach Traffic Circle Saturday night.

The accident was reported about 10:07 p.m. The driver of a 2003 Chevy S-10 pickup, who was westbound on Pacific Coast Highway from the Los Alamitos Traffic Circle, lost control of his truck on rain-slicked PCH. The pickup truck driver, a 25-year-old Long Beach resident, partially crossed the center median and struck the motorcyclist, who was traveling eastbound on a 2009 Piaggio Scooter.

The motorcyclist was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the motorcyclist, a 48-year-old Long Beach resident, has not been released pending notification of his family.

Police detained the pickup truck driver, but released him after questioning. According to Lisa Massacani of the Long Beach Police Department, the investigation is ongoing and charges may be filed against the pickup truck driver.
