Two Die in Single Car Accident in Santa Paula

|

A driver and his passenger died in a single-car accident in Santa Paula Saturday night.

The accident happened about 9:10 p.m. on westbound Highway 126. Agustin Rios, 49-year-old, and his wife Margarita Alfaro-Rodriguez, 47-years-old, both from Ventura, were in an SUV when Rios lost control near the on-ramp at Palm Ave.

According to CHP officers, the driver was traveling in the left lane, then drifted toward the divider and jerked the SUV back to the right. The driver lost control, went through the on-ramp, and then off the embankment. The SUV's passenger side slammed into a large tree.

The jaws of life were used to extricate the victims. Both victims suffered serious head injuries and resuscitation efforts failed. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, but his passenger was.
