A single concussion can have lasting effects

A study published in the journal Radiology on Tuesday confirmed the damaging effect that even a single concussion can have on the brain.

According to the study's authors, a concussion can cause changes to the brain's structure, and those changes can increase the likelihood of later cognitive problems and depression.

The study compared MRIs of healthy patients with those of people who had suffered mild traumatic brain injuries one year prior. The study showed that the patients who had suffered mild traumatic brain injuries had shrinkage in brain regions that are critical for memory, executive function and mood regulation.

CT scans, the most commonly used test in emergency rooms to evaluate concussions, are often poor indicators of the severity of brain injury with head trauma.

If you or a loved one has suffered a concussion or brain injury as the result of someone else's negligence, whether from a car accident, truck accident, bicycle accident, or motorcycle accident, you should consult with a personal injury lawyer regarding your right to compensation.
