Motorcyclist Killed after hit by truck on 405 Fwy

|

A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday as the result of being struck by a truck on the northbound San Diego (405) freeway in Seal Beach.

The accident happened at about 7:48 a.m. on the northbound 405 freeway at the westbound Garden Grove (22) freeway. The CHP is reporting that the motorcyclist, a 68-year-old male from Fontana, lost control of his motorcycle and fell off. He was run over by a pickup truck towing a trailer filled with lawnmower equipment. Though the truck driver tried to swerve to avoid the motorcyclist, his trailer hit the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist, a Fontana resident whose name has not been released pending notification to his relatives, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Should the truck driver have been able to avoid the motorcyclist? Was the truck driver speeding or inattentive? The CHP report will shed more light on the liability, if any, on the truck driver. The perception of independent witnesses, if any, who saw the collision happen will be critical.
