|

A 15-year-old Long Beach resident was struck and killed Friday night while crossing a street.

The accident happened about 9:30 p.m. Two pedestrians, 15-year-old Brian Beato of Long Beach and his 18-year-old friend, were involved in a water balloon fight. They ended up on the center median of Spring St. near Stevely Ave. in Long Beach. One of their balloons struck a vehicle that was eastbound on Spring. Beato apparently panicked and ran across Spring St. Beato was hit by a Honda traveling westbound on Spring.

The teenager was transported to Los Alamitos Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Honda was driven by a 21-year-old woman from Corona. Beato's18-year-old friend initially ran from the scene, then reported what he witnessed to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police officers, who are still investigating the cause of the accident, say the driver of the Honda has not been cited.
